Assistant Professor
Currently on sabbatical from this university, Dr. Didar Hossain serves as an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Grand Valley State University (GVSU), Michigan, USA. He earned his PhD from the Thompson School of Social Work & Public Health at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, USA. He also holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences (BSS) in Social Welfare and a Master of Social Sciences (MSS) in Social Welfare from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, as well as a Master’s degree in Gerontology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. He joined Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) in June 2015 and continued till August 2024. Previously, he also worked for the Asian University of Bangladesh.
Dr. Didar Hossain’s research interests include aging and gerontology, community development, social justice, international social work, and social policy and policy practice. His scholarship is particularly focused on understanding and improving the well-being and quality of life of older adults and other vulnerable populations. Through interdisciplinary and policy-relevant research, Dr. Didar Hossain is committed to generating knowledge that can inform social work practice, programs, and policies in Bangladesh, the broader Asia-Pacific region, Hawaiʻi and the Pacific, and the United States. His broader academic work reflects a commitment to connecting research, teaching, and social policy to advance social justice and community well-being.
